Ireland spinner Ben white retires at 28

Ireland spinner Ben White has announced his retirement from professional cricket at the age of 28 to begin a new career in the technology sector.

The leg-spinner has joined software development company Personio as a Business Development Representative for the United Kingdom and Ireland, bringing his international cricket journey to an unexpected end.

White made his international debut in July 2021 and represented Ireland in all three formats, playing 43 international matches and taking 36 wickets in 38 T20 internationals.

He was part of Ireland’s squads for the 2021, 2024 and 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. Despite being selected for all three tournaments, he featured in only three matches across those editions.

White also played two ODIs and three Test matches for Ireland. He made an encouraging Test debut against Bangladesh, claiming three wickets, but later faced difficulties during Ireland’s tour of Sri Lanka.

Announcing his retirement on LinkedIn, White expressed pride in representing his country and thanked Cricket Ireland for helping him fulfil his childhood dream.

Ireland head coach Gary Wilson praised White’s contribution, highlighting his ability to generate bounce and bowl with pace, particularly in T20 cricket.

White now begins a new chapter outside professional cricket, moving from the international playing field into the technology industry.
