ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal capital Islamabad has secured the 83rd position among 401 cities included in the latest global safety index, ranking ahead of several major international cities.

The ranking places Islamabad above well-known cities including London, Moscow, Toronto, Glasgow and Istanbul. The position reflects the capital’s performance in various aspects linked to public safety and law and order.

According to Islamabad police, the city has also recorded a 100% arrest rate in murder cases registered during the current year. Police officials said all suspects involved in murder cases reported this year were arrested as part of ongoing efforts to improve crime control and ensure effective investigations.

The police said the arrest record demonstrates the department’s focus on responding to serious crimes and bringing suspects before the law. They added that continued efforts were being made to strengthen policing, improve investigations and enhance security across the capital.

Islamabad, being the administrative and diplomatic centre of Pakistan, hosts government institutions, foreign missions, international organisations and a large number of visitors. Maintaining a secure environment therefore remains an important priority for the city’s law-enforcement agencies.

The latest safety ranking comes amid increasing attention toward the security situation in major cities around the world. Islamabad’s position ahead of a number of globally recognised urban centres has drawn attention to the city’s law-and-order performance.

Police authorities have highlighted the importance of effective investigations, timely arrests and improved coordination among law-enforcement units in dealing with serious criminal cases. They said efforts are also focused on preventing crime and ensuring a rapid response to incidents.

The 83rd position among 401 cities means Islamabad is ranked within roughly the top fifth of the cities covered by the index. However, safety rankings can reflect different methodologies and indicators, and a city’s position should be viewed within the criteria used by the organisation compiling the index.

The police’s reported 100% arrest rate in murder cases is a separate law-enforcement performance indicator and does not by itself determine Islamabad’s position in the global safety ranking.
