MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel’s residence in Mumbai has reportedly been targeted in a jewellery theft, with valuables worth around Rs500,000 allegedly going missing.

According to Indian media reports, the incident took place at the actress’s home in the Churchgate area of Mumbai. Patel’s parents are currently living at the residence, where the alleged theft was reported.

Mumbai Police have arrested a domestic worker in connection with the case. The accused has been identified as 40-year-old Seema Ghate, who had been working at Patel’s parents’ home for around one and a half years.

The investigation began after Patel’s mother, Asha Patel, approached the Marine Drive Police and filed a complaint regarding the missing jewellery.

Police said Asha Patel had reportedly suspected the domestic worker of being involved in the alleged theft. She allegedly questioned Ghate about the missing valuables for several months and asked her to return the jewellery.

According to the complaint, Asha Patel continued seeking an explanation and the return of the valuables for around five to six months. However, the jewellery was allegedly not recovered during that period.

She subsequently contacted the police, prompting officials to begin a formal investigation into the matter.

Following the complaint, police detained and arrested Ghate. Investigators are now looking into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the jewellery and the accused’s alleged involvement.

The accused was produced before a court after her arrest. The court has reportedly granted police custody until September 15 to allow investigators to conduct further questioning and gather evidence.

Police are also expected to examine other details related to the alleged theft as part of the ongoing investigation.
