Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has ended its 16-day sit-in outside the Governor House in Peshawar. The protest was held against the petroleum levy and its impact on the public.

JI leader Abdul Wasey said the demonstration continued for 16 consecutive days. He said the party remained firm on its demands throughout the protest and continued to press for relief for citizens.

Abdul Wasey said the governor also addressed the protesters during the sit-in. According to him, the governor acknowledged that the protesters’ demands were legitimate and could be implemented.

The JI leader said the governor also appreciated the peaceful conduct of the protesters. He claimed that the governor admitted that the participants had not damaged public property during the 16-day demonstration.

Abdul Wasey further said that the protesters did not even break a flowerpot or a glass during the sit-in. He presented this as evidence that the demonstration remained peaceful and disciplined.

The JI has strongly opposed the petroleum levy, arguing that additional charges on petroleum products increase the financial burden on ordinary citizens. The party has called for measures to reduce the impact of rising fuel costs on the public.
