It is known for its satirical coverage of politics current affairs and popular culture, combining comedy with mock news reports and interviews featuring journalists, celebrities and other public figures.
Stewart first hosted The Daily Show from 1999 to 2015 before returning in 2024 as a weekly presenter. His return brought back a familiar face to the programme which has remained a prominent name in political satire.
The show has had several hosts throughout its history. Craig Kilborn presented it from 1996 to 1998, while Trevor Noah took over from Stewart in 2015 and remained in the role until 2022.
Following Noah’s departure the programme operated without a permanent host in 2023, relying instead on a rotating group of guest presenters including Leslie Jones, Michael Kosta and Chelsea Handler.
Under the latest arrangement Stewart will continue presenting the Monday editions, while correspondents Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper and Michael Kosta will share hosting duties from Tuesday through Thursday.
Comedy Central is part of Skydance which completed its merger with Paramount Global earlier this year, with the combined company renamed Skydance Corp.
Stewart’s extended commitment ensures that he will remain a central figure in the programme’s coverage of American politics and entertainment through 2028.
