Jos Buttler breaks Rohit Sharma’s T20I record, chases Babar Azam

SOUTHAMPTON: England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has moved past former India captain Rohit Sharma in the list of leading run-scorers in men’s T20 International cricket.

Buttler achieved the milestone during England’s first T20I against Sri Lanka in Southampton on Wednesday, producing an attacking innings that once again highlighted his ability to change the game quickly.

The England captain smashed 80 runs from 44 deliveries, striking eight fours and three sixes. His aggressive knock helped him take his career T20I tally to 4,292 runs in 161 matches.

That figure moved Buttler beyond Rohit Sharma’s career total of 4,231 runs, putting the England star among the leading run-getters in the format.

The milestone adds another significant achievement to Buttler’s international career, particularly given his longevity and consistency in the shortest format. His combination of power hitting and experience has made him one of England’s most important T20 players over the years.

Buttler’s latest achievement also puts the spotlight on Pakistan’s Babar Azam, who remains ahead of him on the all-time T20I run-scoring list.

Babar has accumulated 4,596 runs in 145 T20I appearances, leaving Buttler 304 runs behind the Pakistan batter.

With Buttler continuing to feature regularly for England, the gap between the two could become an intriguing storyline in upcoming T20 internationals.

Rohit, meanwhile, remains one of the most influential batters in T20I history despite having stepped away from the format. His 4,231 runs had kept him among the leading scorers before Buttler’s latest surge.
