Karachi: The Meteorological Department has brought good news for residents of Karachi suffering from intense heat predicting dust storms and rain with thunder and lightning.
According to details, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Meteorological Department have issued separate high alerts for rainfall, dust storms, landslides and possible flooding across the country including Karachi.
Light to moderate rain with dust storms and thunderstorms has been forecast for different areas of Karachi. However, the city continues to experience hot and humid weather. Due to a humidity level of up to 75%, the heat feels much more intense than the actual temperature.
Today, the minimum temperature was recorded at 29.5°C while the current temperature stands at 31°C. Winds are blowing from the southwest at a speed of 15 km/h and the maximum temperature during the day is expected to remain between 34°C and 36°C.
On the other hand, an NDMA spokesperson warned that there is a high risk of landslides in northern and mountainous regions of the country until June 22.
The districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Juglot, Skardu, Shigar and Hussainabad have been declared highly sensitive. Similarly, parts of Azad Kashmir and districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Lower Chitral, Lower Kohistan and Abbottabad are also facing serious landslide risks.
The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a nationwide alert warning that flood-like situations may develop in various streams and rivers of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Azad Kashmir and Balochistan until June 19.
Local administrations and disaster management authorities have been instructed to remain on high alert to deal with any emergency situation.
