Karachi: A new weather system entering the region has prompted the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to issue an emergency alert regarding heavy rainfall across the country.
The National Emergency Operations Center of NDMA has issued an alert stating that weather conditions are likely to remain severe in various parts of the country from June 16 to 20.

According to the alert, Islamabad, as well as several areas in Punjab including Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal and Talagang are expected to experience thunderstorms and rainfall. Rain is also forecast for Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Gujar Khan, Gujrat, Jhelum and Sialkot.
Other districts such as Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan are also expected to receive rainfall. In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain is expected in Skardu, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Hunza, Ghanche and Shigar.
In Azad Kashmir, rainfall is forecast for Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Poonch, Hattian, Mirpur and Bhimber. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain with thunderstorms is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Peshawar and Kohat.
Rainfall is also likely in Parachinar, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan. In Balochistan, rainfall is expected in Quetta, Zhob, Sherani, Ziarat and Qila Saifullah. Rain with thunderstorms is also likely in Qila Abdullah, Kohlu, Harnai, Sibi, Barkhan and Khuzdar.
In Sindh, rain with strong winds is expected in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, and Dadu while scattered rainfall is also possible in Ghotki, Shikarpur, Shaheed Benazirabad and Nawabshah.
According to NDMA, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, rainfall and extreme heat may accelerate glacier melting and increase the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) potentially causing flash floods in rivers and streams.
The statement further warned that areas including Ghizer, Skardu and Shigar may face flooding due to glacial lake bursts while Hassanabad, Shishper, Gulkin, Gulmit, Passu and Nagar are also at serious risk of GLOF incidents.
