Police in India’s Maharashtra state have arrested actor Ruhullah Mehdi, who has worked alongside Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, along with one of his associates, after allegedly recovering 28 grams of narcotics from their possession.

According to Indian media reports, police had received confidential information that Mehdi, who reportedly hails from Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir and resides in Mumbai’s Goregaon area, was expected to arrive at Dahisar Check Naka to allegedly deliver or smuggle drugs.

Acting on the information, a police team led by a senior police inspector reportedly laid a trap at the location. The officers intercepted the two men and arrested them at the spot after allegedly recovering 28 grams of drugs from their possession.

Following the arrests, the actor was produced before a court, which remanded him to police custody for five days. Investigators are now attempting to trace the wider network allegedly connected to the case.

Police are reportedly investigating where the narcotics were purchased, who supplied them and who they were allegedly intended for. Authorities are also expected to examine the role of other individuals who may be linked to the suspected drug network.

The arrest has drawn attention because of Mehdi’s association with the Indian entertainment industry. The actor appeared in Shahid Kapoor’s action drama film Deva, which was released in 2025. The film featured Kapoor in the lead role and was directed by Rosshan Andrrews.

Apart from Deva Ruhullah Mehdi has reportedly appeared in several well-known web series and other acting projects. His arrest is therefore likely to attract further scrutiny as the investigation progresses.

The police have so far focused on establishing the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics. Investigators may also question the arrested men about their alleged contacts and any possible links with people involved in the distribution of illegal drugs.

The five-day police remand will allow investigators to question the suspects and gather further evidence as they attempt to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged drug transaction.

However, the allegations remain subject to the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings. An arrest or police remand does not by itself establish guilt, and the suspects are entitled to due process under the law.

Authorities are expected to provide further details as the investigation develops and as they determine whether additional arrests are warranted in connection with the alleged drug network.
