Catherine, Princess of Wales, is reportedly taking extra precautions during the winter months because of concerns about her health, according to a magazine report citing unnamed sources.
Australian magazine New Idea reported that Catherine’s absence from an event marking the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster had prompted speculation about her health. However, Kensington Palace has not publicly attributed her absence to a medical issue.
One source quoted by the magazine said not every engagement involving the Prince and Princess of Wales required both of them to attend, particularly an event focused on King Charles III and Prince William’s existing connection with the community.
The magazine also quoted an unnamed source as saying that Catherine, who has previously announced that her cancer is in remission, should take her health into account during the colder months.
“The cold and flu season came through early this year in the UK. Don’t be surprised to see William flying solo while Kate takes extra precautions this winter with her weakened immune system,” the source was quoted as saying.
The report did not provide independent evidence that Catherine has a weakened immune system or that this was the reason she missed the event.
King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William attended the Aberfan Memorial Garden in south Wales on October 21 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the disaster, which killed 144 people, including 116 children, when a coal-waste tip collapsed onto a school and nearby homes in 1966.
In a post accompanying photographs of William at the event, the Prince and Princess of Wales’s official social media account said they were “joining survivors, bereaved parents and members of the community to honour the memory of those who were taken far too soon and reflect on the strength, resilience and unity shown by the people of Aberfan in the aftermath”.

The post added: “A day to remember those who lost their lives, and to stand with a community whose courage and compassion continue to inspire.”
