The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise Department has decided to recover vehicles being used by unauthorised individuals after hundreds of vehicles were reportedly handed over to various government departments over the past 15 years.
According to sources, the department has launched a campaign to ensure that all vehicles allocated by the Excise Department are used only by their officially designated recipients. Directives have been issued to excise officers and other relevant officials to recover vehicles found in the possession of unauthorised users.
In an official letter, the Director General of Excise Khyber Pakhtunkhwa instructed officials to retrieve vehicles from individuals who are not authorised to use them. Under the new directives, all allocated vehicles must remain in the possession of their original assignees and cannot be used by other individuals without proper authorisation.
The letter also directed officials to verify vehicle allocations during roadside inspections. Excise personnel have been instructed to contact the department’s warehouse to confirm whether a vehicle is being used by its authorised recipient.
The Director General further ordered relevant officers to personally supervise the recovery campaign and submit daily progress reports. The instructions aim to ensure effective monitoring and prevent the misuse of government vehicles.
According to the department’s directives, the Excise Department is legally authorised to allocate vehicles to other government departments for official use. However, such allocations do not permit unauthorised individuals to use the vehicles.
Excise squads have also been instructed to take action against violations. Vehicles found in the possession of individuals other than their authorised users will be seized, in accordance with the department’s directives.
The campaign is intended to strengthen administrative oversight, ensure compliance with official vehicle allocation rules and prevent the unauthorised use of government resources across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
