She argued that the debate should not be framed simply as a conflict between men and women but rather as a struggle against patriarchal and misogynistic thinking, including attitudes held by people who treat discrimination against women as part of tradition.

Her comments came as public anger continued to grow over an alleged assault involving a teenage girl and her male classmate in Jamui.

According to police, the two students were travelling home on a scooter on the evening of September 19 when a group of people allegedly stopped them. Authorities said the teenagers were subsequently subjected to physical violence and alleged sexual misconduct.

A video purportedly showing the incident later circulated widely on social media prompting strong public reaction and leading police to establish a special investigation team to examine the case.

Police said the alleged main suspect identified as Nandan Yadav was later arrested after sustaining injuries during a police encounter.

Authorities are also investigating the circulation of the video online. Officials have warned that sharing footage that reveals the identities of minor victims is a punishable offence under Indian law.

Sanon’s remarks focused on the wider social issue rather than directly commenting on the legal proceedings. Her post has drawn attention to discussions surrounding gender discrimination patriarchal attitudes and the treatment of women and girls in society.

The incident has also renewed debate about the protection of minors and the responsible handling of sensitive material involving children on social media. Authorities have urged the public not to circulate footage that could reveal the identities of the alleged victims.
