Kundi blames PTI for K-P’s growing woes

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of promoting corruption and allowing the province’s security situation to deteriorate, urging Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to focus on restoring law and order.

Speaking as the chief guest at a Parents’ Day and Seeratun Nabi (PBUH) ceremony at Jamia Darul Huda in Hakimabad, Nowshera, Kundi criticised the provincial government’s priorities. He claimed that the chief minister appeared more focused on meeting former prime minister Imran Khan and arranging medical treatment for him than tackling the growing security challenges in K-P.

Kundi questioned the need for further meetings with Imran Khan, saying that two meetings had already taken place and doctors had declared him healthy. He also pointed out that courts had issued sentences in cases against the former prime minister and other individuals, arguing that those convicted would have to serve their sentences.

The governor said PTI supporters had celebrated when courts permitted meetings with Imran Khan, but the situation had changed following the announcement of convictions and sentences.

Kundi also challenged PTI leaders’ claims that healthcare facilities in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa had reached standards comparable to those in the United States and Britain. He questioned why the provincial government would seek medical treatment for Imran Khan outside the province if its hospitals had achieved such standards.

The governor acknowledged his longstanding political differences with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. However, he said political disagreements did not justify using the kind of language that he alleged Imran Khan had used against the JUI-F leader.

When asked whether he would be willing to take charge of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Kundi said he was ready to accept the responsibility if the purpose was genuinely to eliminate corruption from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

He alleged that corruption had spread across various sectors of the provincial government while ordinary citizens remained largely silent. Kundi called for stronger accountability and greater political attention to governance, corruption and the deteriorating law and order situation in the province.
