Under the plan, online taxi vehicles will be required to install QR-based panic buttons, dashboard cameras, and GPS tracking systems. The system will be implemented in phases.

The decision was taken during a meeting between Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi and representatives of ride-hailing companies. Both sides agreed to make the safety features mandatory within a fixed timeframe.

Officials said strict action will be taken against vehicles that do not comply with the new requirements after the deadline. Enforcement will be ensured through traffic police monitoring.

CTO Shirazi said modern tracking systems and cameras will improve passenger safety. He said they will also help authorities monitor vehicles more effectively.

He added that the technology will assist in investigating accidents and handling emergency situations. The system will also improve accountability in ride-hailing services.

The CTO said the Punjab government’s QR panic button system will be supported fully by traffic police. It is designed to ensure quick response in case of emergencies.

Authorities said the step is part of efforts to modernise urban transport. It also aims to improve the overall safety framework for passengers and drivers.

Officials added that the initiative is expected to increase public trust in ride-hailing services. It will also strengthen safety standards in the growing digital transport sector.
