Celebrity stylist Law Roach has said he struggled to meet actress Keke Palmer’s expectations during their professional partnership, adding that he understood her decision to fire him.

Speaking on the podcast Aspire with Emma Grede on October 20, Roach said he had been unable to create the looks Palmer wanted, but insisted there was no personal animosity between them.

“I couldn’t get it right,” Roach said. “I love Keke to death. It wasn’t personal, it was a business decision that she should have made.”

Roach, who has styled stars including Zendaya, Céline Dion and Kim Kardashian, said their creative differences had made the partnership difficult.

“I couldn’t get the looks right. I couldn’t get the energy right,” he said, recalling a conversation in which Palmer explained why he was not the right stylist for her.

“You may be the best stylist in the world, but you are not the best stylist for me,” he recalled her telling him.

Roach said Palmer had been pregnant with her son, Leodis, when they worked together and wanted to keep the pregnancy private. He said he had wanted to create outfits that highlighted her baby bump, but acknowledged that it was her decision when to announce the news.

“She knows exactly who she is and what she wanted. And I couldn’t deliver — and I’m not mad at that,” he said.

Roach has also recently spoken about working with Kardashian, describing the experience as “really, really, really fun” in an interview with People magazine.

“She is such a beautiful person and nice and easy [to work with],” he said, adding that Kardashian knew what she wanted while also giving him room to be creative.
