LAYYAH: Police on Thursday claimed to have solved the murder of a local court employee within 24 hours, arresting the victim’s teenage son and one of his friends in connection with the case.

According to SHO karor Lal Esan Ch.Haroon Randhawa, the body of Rana Mukhtiar, also known as Noshi, an employee serving as an aide to a civil judge, was found with gunshot wounds near the Rajan Shah Canal on the night of June 9 within the limits of Karor Lal Esan police station.

The body was shifted to a tehsil hospital for a post-mortem examination, while investigators launched an inquiry into the killing.

SHO Ch. Haroon Randhawa said that during the investigation, the victim’s 17-year-old son, Hashir, and his alleged accomplice, Sajjad alias Saji, were taken into custody. Investigators claimed to have recovered the suspected murder weapon as well as the victim’s motorcycle.

According to the SHO Ch. Haroon Randhawa, preliminary findings suggest that the victim had repeatedly expressed concerns over some of his son’s friendships and had advised him against maintaining certain associations. Investigators believe the disagreement may have played a role in the incident.

Police alleged that the suspect took his father to a canal-side location on the pretext of inspecting livestock before fatally shooting him. Investigators further claimed that efforts were made to portray the incident as a robbery by removing personal belongings and the motorcycle from the scene.

Officials said the suspect had initially appeared to cooperate with the investigation and participated in funeral arrangements following the death.

District police authorities said both suspects had been arrested and that further investigation was under way.

The police allegations have not yet been tested in court, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
