Lazio delivered a commanding performance to defeat Juventus 3-0 in Turin on Sunday, moving level on points with Serie A leaders Inter Milan and strengthening their early-season title credentials.
The emphatic victory lifted Lazio to 19 points after seven league matches, their best-ever tally at this stage of a Serie A campaign. They remain behind defending champions Inter on goal difference, but their impressive start has raised hopes of a serious challenge for the Italian title.
Lazio’s current points total surpasses the 17 collected by Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side at the beginning of the 1999-2000 season. That team went unbeaten in its first nine league matches before winning the club’s second and most recent Serie A championship by a single point ahead of Juventus.
On Sunday, Lazio gradually took control of the contest, with Oliver Provstgaard breaking the deadlock in the 37th minute. The Danish centre-back rose above the Juventus defence to direct a powerful header into the far corner.
Lazio doubled their advantage after 66 minutes when winger Gustav Isaksen cut inside a retreating defender and calmly placed a low shot beyond the goalkeeper.
Substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru completed the demolition three minutes before full-time. Collecting the ball in his own half, he surged forward unchallenged before entering the penalty area and slotting home to seal a memorable away victory.
Milan Survive Atalanta Scare
AC Milan also collected three important points, defeating Atalanta 3-2 at home to finish the weekend in fourth place, four points behind the league leaders.
Goncalo Ramos opened the scoring from the penalty spot after young Slovenian defender Relja Obric conceded a handball. Adrien Rabiot then doubled Milan’s lead before half-time when his shot slipped through Obric’s legs.
Milan received another penalty in the second half following a handball by Danish defender Thomas Kristensen, but Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi saved Ramos’s effort.
The hosts restored their two-goal advantage when Mario Gila headed home from close range after Rabiot flicked on a corner.
Atalanta attempted a late comeback through goals from Gianluca Gaetano and Nikola Krstovic, but Milan held on despite a tense final 10 minutes.
Rabiot acknowledged that his team still needed greater consistency but described the victory as crucial to their season.
Como Climb as Fiorentina Struggle
Como moved into fifth place after beating Fiorentina 3-1 away from home, ending a four-match winless run.
Mattia Liberali and Nico Paz scored in the first half, while Marin Pongracic briefly reduced the deficit before the interval. Anastasios Douvikas added Como’s third goal early in the second period.
The defeat left Fiorentina stuck in the relegation zone with just four points.
Coach Cesc Fabregas praised Como’s performance, describing it as a complete display while acknowledging the risks associated with his team’s tactical approach.
Elsewhere, Lecce secured a convincing 3-0 away win over Udinese, with Kialonda Gaspar, Konan N’Dri and Jamil Siebert all finding the net.
With Lazio matching Inter’s points tally, the early Serie A title race is developing into an increasingly competitive battle.
