The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday disposed of a petition challenging Mohsin Naqvi’s appointment as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the petitioner withdrew the case.
Justice Awais Khalid heard the petition filed by citizen Ashba Kamran, who had raised objections over Naqvi holding the PCB chairman’s position along with other public offices.
During the hearing, the PCB’s lawyer defended Naqvi’s appointment and said all legal requirements were fulfilled. The counsel argued that PCB rules do not mention any specific qualification for the chairman’s post.
The petitioner’s lawyer claimed that a senator could not hold an executive position outside the constitutional framework. He argued that Naqvi’s appointment as PCB chairman after becoming a senator raised legal questions.
The court observed that if the petitioner believed a senator could not hold dual positions, the matter should be challenged regarding Naqvi’s Senate membership before the relevant forum.
Following the court’s remarks, the petitioner withdrew the plea. The court then closed the case and directed the petitioner to approach the appropriate legal authority.
The petition had sought to declare Naqvi’s appointment as PCB chairman illegal, claiming it violated constitutional provisions. The case also named senior government officials as respondents.
