ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Major General Faisal Naseer, HI(M), T. Bt & Bar, as the National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) for a period of three years on a secondment basis.

According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division, the appointment has been made under Section 9(1) of the NACTA Act, 2013, and will take effect immediately.

Sources familiar with the development told *Minute Mirror* that Maj Gen Faisal Naseer is considered among the most experienced officers of the Pakistan Army, with a professional career largely focused on intelligence, counter-terrorism, and internal security challenges.

During his service, he held important positions, including serving as a Brigadier in Military Intelligence (MI), where he worked under the command of then Director General Military Intelligence, Major General Syed Asim Munir.

Sources said that during his tenure in MI, Maj Gen Naseer developed a reputation for taking a firm and decisive approach against terrorism, criminal networks, and elements involved in activities threatening national security.

According to officials familiar with his career, officers who worked with him and those who served alongside him have long recognized his commitment to combating security threats and maintaining operational discipline.

Following General Syed Asim Munir’s appointment as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen Faisal Naseer was appointed Director General Counter-Intelligence (DG-C) at the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) headquarters.

Sources said that the position of DG-C is among the most significant roles within the intelligence setup, with responsibilities related to counter-intelligence operations, internal security assessments, and monitoring threats affecting the country.

The appointment was viewed as a reflection of confidence in his professional capabilities, operational experience, and understanding of complex security .

Sources told *Minute Mirror* that Maj Gen Faisal Naseer’s appointment comes at a time when strengthening coordination among security institutions remains a key priority.

They said his extensive experience in counter-terrorism operations, particularly in challenging and high-risk environments, made him a suitable choice to lead NACTA.

A source familiar with the matter said, “His experience in dealing with terrorism-related challenges and his professional approach towards national security matters are among the reasons behind his appointment.”

As National Coordinator, Maj Gen Faisal Naseer will oversee coordination of counter-terrorism strategies, improve cooperation among law enforcement and intelligence agencies, and contribute to the implementation of the National Action Plan.

Sources said the government expects his leadership to further strengthen NACTA’s role as the country’s central institution for countering terrorism and extremism.

With decades of experience in intelligence and security affairs, the newly appointed National Coordinator is expected to bring operational expertise and strategic direction to Pakistan’s ongoing efforts against terrorism and security threats.
