Man chases sock World record

A man from South Carolina, USA is trying to set a Guinness World Record for having the world’s largest collection of socks. His collection has already grown to more than 2,000 pairs.

Darrell Parker a retired firefighter and paramedic from North Augusta, said his sock collection started with a Father’s Day gift.  Over the years he continued receiving socks as gifts for birthdays and other special occasions.

At one point Parker’s wife told him that he had collected far too many socks. Later his grandchildren suggested that he should try to turn his unusual collection into a Guinness World Record.

The current record is held by former CBS Philadelphia news anchor Jim Donovan. In 2025 his collection was officially counted at 1,531 unique pairs of socks.

Parker says he already has more than 2,000 pairs and plans to collect even more before the end of the year.  He will then submit his collection to Guinness World Records for official verification.

If Guinness confirms the collection Parker could become the new world record holder for the largest sock collection.
