Maryam orders DGPR overhaul, media dues cleared

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed immediate measures to clear outstanding payments owed to media organisations and called for third-party validation to assess the performance of the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR).

A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was held to review the performance and future structure of the provincial information department. Information and Culture Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari briefed the meeting on relevant matters.

During the meeting, Maryam ordered the restructuring of the Directorate General Public Relations Punjab. She also approved a new building for the DGPR headquarters.

The chief minister stressed the need to modernise the department in line with current requirements. She said timely access to information was essential and that the DGPR needed to be equipped to meet the demands of the modern media environment.

Maryam said society was living in an era of an unprecedented flow of information. She stressed the importance of helping citizens distinguish between accurate information and misinformation.

She directed the relevant authorities to ensure that the public remained informed about the government’s welfare initiatives and development measures.

The chief minister also instructed officials to take immediate steps regarding the payment of outstanding media dues.

She further emphasised the importance of independent assessment of the DGPR’s performance through third-party validation to improve transparency, efficiency and accountability within the department.
