In a significant move aimed at easing fuel costs for consumers, the government has announced a sharp reduction in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel across the country.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been cut by Rs74.28 per litre, bringing the new rate down to Rs299.50 per litre. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs67.31 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs311.47 per litre.

The revised fuel prices will come into effect from midnight, providing immediate relief to motorists and businesses that rely heavily on transportation and fuel consumption.

The reduction is expected to lower transportation costs and offer some respite to consumers facing inflationary pressures.
