KARACHI: A man was shot dead while his son was injured after falling from a motorcycle during a suspected targeted killing incident in Karachi’s Orangi Town, police said.
The attack took place in Sector 11½ of Orangi Town when two unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on a man traveling with his son. According to police, the victim was returning home from his in-laws’ residence when he was targeted by the attackers.
The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Samiullah, a resident of Chishti Nagar in Orangi Town. Investigators said the gunmen approached his motorcycle and fired a shot at his head, killing him on the spot.
Police recovered a 9mm pistol shell casing from the crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident. Initial findings suggest that the killing may have been targeted in nature, although authorities have not ruled out other possibilities.
According to law enforcement officials, the motive behind the attack is still being determined. However, investigators are treating personal enmity as a possible factor and are gathering evidence to identify and arrest those responsible.
Family members revealed that Samiullah was the father of three children, including two daughters and one son. His brother told media representatives that the victim operated a shoe business and managed a small manufacturing unit near his home.
At the time of the attack, Samiullah’s son was riding with him on the motorcycle. The child was not hit by gunfire but suffered injuries after falling from the vehicle during the shooting. He was later provided medical treatment and is reported to be out of immediate danger.
Relatives said Samiullah had been following his usual routine and was on his way home when the attackers struck. The sudden nature of the assault has left family members shocked and grieving.
Police officials have collected forensic evidence from the scene and are reviewing available information to trace the suspects. Investigators are also examining whether the victim had any known disputes or threats that could shed light on the motive behind the killing.
The incident adds to concerns over violent crime in Karachi where authorities continue efforts to curb targeted attacks and improve public security. Police say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
