KARACHI: Armaghan and Shiraz, the accused in the Mustafa Amir murder case, have refused to receive court notices issued in connection with a petition seeking a speedy trial, prompting concern from the Sindh High Court.
The high court heard the petition seeking an expedited trial in the high-profile murder case. During the proceedings, the court expressed surprise after learning that the accused had declined to accept the notices for the second time.
Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro questioned the situation, asking whether the accused were refusing to receive notices issued by the court.
During the hearing, Advocate Iftikhar Shah informed the court that both accused had again declined to accept the notices, despite an earlier attempt to serve them. Their refusal has complicated the proceedings on the petition seeking to accelerate the trial.
The court also noted another obstacle to the case’s progress: the trial court currently lacks a judge, leaving the position vacant and raising concerns about further delays in the judicial process.
The judge observed that the accused were not accepting court notices while the trial court remained without a presiding judge. These circumstances have created additional difficulties for efforts to ensure a timely trial.
After hearing the matter, the Sindh High Court adjourned the proceedings indefinitely. The court did not announce a new hearing date.
The petition seeks a speedy trial in the Mustafa Amir murder case, which has drawn considerable public attention. Further progress will depend on the court proceedings and the resolution of the issues affecting the trial.
