Congresswoman Nancy Mace’s campaign for governor of South Carolina came to an end after she suffered a significant defeat in the Republican gubernatorial primary held on June 9. The race was won by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, while Mace finished in fifth place and formally conceded shortly after the results became clear.

Following her loss, Mace reflected on the campaign and suggested that several of her controversial positions and public actions may have contributed to the outcome. She argued that her willingness to address sensitive issues and challenge powerful interests may have cost her political support among some voters.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Mace defended her record and emphasized that she has consistently chosen to speak out on issues she believes are important, regardless of the political consequences. She said she has witnessed the impact of both silence and action in public life and has always preferred to take a stand rather than remain quiet.

The congresswoman pointed to several causes and investigations that she supported during her political career. Among them was her advocacy for the release of files connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Mace stated that her support for making those records public may have alienated some voters, but she maintained that it was the right decision. As a survivor of sexual assault, she said she felt a personal responsibility to push for transparency and accountability regarding the Epstein case.

Mace also highlighted her efforts to expose what she described as hidden misconduct within government institutions. She referenced her calls for greater scrutiny of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the judiciary and her attempts to reveal individuals connected to a congressional fund that had previously been used to settle sexual harassment claims. According to Mace, she chose to pursue these issues because she believed they involved matters of public interest and accountability.

Reflecting on the election results, Mace acknowledged that her approach may not have been politically advantageous. She suggested that while her actions were driven by principle, they may not have resonated with enough voters to secure victory in the Republican primary.

Despite her disappointing finish, Mace quickly shifted her attention toward party unity and the upcoming general election. In a speech to supporters, she announced her endorsement of Alan Wilson, the candidate who emerged victorious from the Republican contest.

Mace praised Wilson as a strong advocate for public safety and law enforcement, describing him as the type of leader she believes South Carolina needs. She expressed confidence in his ability to continue the state’s conservative policies and maintain a focus on law and order.

The congresswoman also predicted that Wilson would perform strongly against his remaining opponents, including Republican Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette. Speaking enthusiastically to supporters, Mace said she believed Wilson would not only win the nomination but would do so decisively.

Although her gubernatorial campaign has ended, Mace’s comments suggest that she intends to remain an active voice in South Carolina and national politics. By endorsing Wilson and emphasizing the issues she championed during the campaign, she signaled that she plans to continue advocating for the causes she believes are important, even after her defeat at the ballot box.

The South Carolina Republican primary marks a significant political setback for Mace, but her endorsement of Wilson highlights an effort to unite Republican voters as the party prepares for the next phase of the gubernatorial race.
