November 9 declared public holiday across Pakistan

The federal government has announced a nationwide public holiday on Monday, November 9, to mark the birth anniversary of renowned poet and philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

According to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division, all public and private offices across the country will remain closed on November 9 in observance of Iqbal Day.

The annual holiday will be observed across Pakistan to commemorate the contributions and legacy of Allama Iqbal, who is widely regarded as one of the country’s most influential poets and thinkers.

Allama Iqbal, also known as the Poet of the East, played a significant role in inspiring the idea of a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent through his poetry, philosophical writings and political vision.

Iqbal Day is observed every year on November 9 to pay tribute to his intellectual contributions and lasting influence on Pakistan’s history, literature and national identity.

The announcement of the public holiday will allow people across the country to observe the occasion and participate in activities organised to honour the national poet.
