In a statement issued on Saturday Malik said that the vice chancellor has been running the university as if it was his fiefdom, violating all rules and regulations. “The university has been pushed towards a financial bankruptcy with teachers being deprived of their salaries for several months and other employees of the university have also been suffering because of the policies of the vice chancellor, forcing the employees to take to street for the acceptance of their demands.”
He expressed concern over the reports that the management of the university has been involved in multiple corruption cases with the VC making illegal commercial deals with different industries, including Qarshi without taking the university senate into confidence. “It was also reported by media that funds for solarization provided by the Higher Education Commission have also been misused besides there are also allegations of harassment. This all warrants immediate inquiry into the affairs of the university which seems to be plunging into an abyss of mismanagement and gross incompetence.”
Malik demanded that the salaries of employees and pensions of retired staff members be released immediately. “Our party also demands that housing funds be released without any further delay and frozen medical facilities be restored with immediate effect.”
He made it very clear that his party would go to any extent to protect the interests of the employees, teachers and staff members of the Urdu University. “We stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with the employees of Urdu University and raise this issue at all platforms including the National Assembly and the Senate.”
