Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, chaired a high-level committee meeting to review preparations for the 2027 South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Games. According to an official statement issued in Islamabad, the meeting focused on accelerating planning, infrastructure development, and institutional arrangements to ensure that Pakistan successfully hosts the prestigious regional sporting event.

One of the key decisions made during the meeting was the immediate establishment of a dedicated SAARC Games Secretariat in Islamabad. The secretariat will serve as the central coordinating body for all matters related to the organization and management of the 2027 SAARC Games. It will oversee communication among federal and provincial authorities, sports organizations, and other stakeholders involved in the preparations.

The committee also decided to expedite the upgradation and modernization of the Pakistan Sports Complex, which is expected to serve as one of the main venues for the Games. Improving sports infrastructure was identified as a top priority to ensure that facilities meet international standards and provide athletes with world-class competition environments. In addition to the sports complex, preparations for other venues across the country will also be monitored to guarantee timely completion.

To streamline the planning process, the government approved the formation of several sub-committees. These specialized committees will be responsible for overseeing financial planning, infrastructure development, and the management of sports venues. Their role will include monitoring progress, resolving administrative challenges, and ensuring that all projects are completed within the required timelines and budget. This structured approach is intended to improve coordination among various government departments and enhance the efficiency of preparations.

The official statement reaffirmed the government’s commitment to hosting the 2027 SAARC Games in accordance with international standards. The administration emphasized that every effort will be made to organize a successful event that reflects Pakistan’s capability to host major international sporting competitions. Officials noted that adherence to global standards in event management, athlete services, security, and facilities would remain a key objective throughout the planning process.

The government also pledged full support to Pakistan’s national sports federations to help them prepare athletes for the Games. This support will include providing the necessary resources, training opportunities, coaching assistance, and development programs to ensure that Pakistani athletes are well prepared to compete at the regional level. The aim is not only to host the Games successfully but also to improve Pakistan’s overall sporting performance and competitiveness.

Speaking during the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar stated that the government remains firmly committed to promoting sports throughout the country. He emphasized that investment in sports infrastructure and athlete development is essential for encouraging youth participation, discovering new talent, and strengthening Pakistan’s sporting culture. He further remarked that hosting international sporting events such as the SAARC Games would significantly enhance Pakistan’s positive image on the global stage, showcasing the country’s hospitality, organizational capabilities, and commitment to regional cooperation through sports.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah, Special Assistant Tariq Bajwa, the Secretary of the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry, representatives from provincial departments, senior officials of the Pakistan Sports Board, and other high-ranking government officials. Participants reviewed the current status of preparations and discussed strategies to ensure effective coordination among all relevant institutions. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintaining momentum in the planning process and delivering a successful, internationally recognized edition of the 2027 SAARC Games in Pakistan.
