Lahore – Pakistani freelancers have achieved a historic milestone by earning more than $1.6 billion in foreign exchange during the first 11 months of the fiscal year setting a new record for the country’s IT and freelance sector.
According to industry experts, this is the highest annual income ever generated by Pakistan’s IT-related freelance industry and they believe the country now has the potential to achieve an annual target of $10 billion in freelance earnings.
Speaking on the matter, Ibrahim Amin, Chairman of the Freelancers Association of Pakistan said that Pakistani freelancers are playing a leading role in bringing valuable foreign exchange into the country. During the last fiscal year alone, they remitted $1.6 billion to Pakistan.
Ibrahim Amin said that freelance earnings had grown dramatically from $400 million in 2022 to $1.6 billion in 2026 highlighting the extraordinary growth of the sector.
He added that young people from remote and underdeveloped areas of Pakistan are learning online skills, conducting research and improving their expertise despite facing challenges such as limited resources, electricity shortages and unreliable internet access. Their efforts are enabling them to successfully offer services in the global marketplace.
According to Ibrahim Amin, more than 60% of Pakistan’s population consists of young people. He said that if the government and the private sector provide proper training, mentorship and support, Pakistan could generate up to $10 billion annually through freelancing.
He further stated that by fully utilizing the talent and skills of young freelancers, Pakistan can not only reduce unemployment but also build a stronger and more resilient economy.
