Pakistan House dinner puts London at centre of Pakistan’s cricket and diplomacy

LONDON: Pakistan House in London became a focal point for Pakistan’s cricket and diplomatic activity as Pakistan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Tipu Usman hosted a dinner in honour of the Pakistan cricket team and its management, bringing together players, senior officials, diplomats and prominent members of the British-Pakistani community.

The reception, held at the High Commissioner’s official residence, provided an opportunity for informal interaction and networking among Pakistan’s sporting, diplomatic and community circles.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi attended the dinner, alongside senior officials and guests. British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott was also present, adding a strong diplomatic dimension to the gathering.

The reception came as the Pakistan cricket team continues its England tour and prepares for a high-profile royal engagement. The national squad and team management are scheduled to meet King Charles III today at 3pm in the gardens of Clarence House, with Naqvi also expected to attend.

Naqvi’s presence in London has also attracted political interest. According to sources, he met President Asif Ali Zardari in London for a brief meeting, during which matters of mutual interest were discussed.

Sources further said the PCB chairman held a brief meeting with Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar at Pakistan House.

Despite the political interest surrounding his London visit, Naqvi declined to answer journalists’ questions about Pakistan’s political situation and other issues during the dinner.

As he was leaving the reception, however, the PCB chairman approached media representatives, exchanged pleasantries and posed for photographs. He told journalists that he was running late and would meet them informally, but did not respond to their questions.

The dinner hosted by Tipu Usman brought together a wide cross-section of Pakistan’s community and diplomatic network in London. The presence of senior officials, diplomats and British-Pakistani figures highlighted the role of Pakistan House as an important venue for engagement between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

For the Pakistan cricket team, the royal meeting with King Charles III represents one of the most notable engagements of the England tour. The meeting at Clarence House Gardens will bring the national players and management into direct contact with the British monarch.
