The move reflects Islamabad’s commitment to protecting foreign investments and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of major development projects.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said the government has instructed provincial authorities and all relevant security agencies to enhance security arrangements at the mining site. He said additional personnel and resources would be deployed to safeguard the mine’s infrastructure, employees, transportation network and supply chain.
According to the minister, the Ministry of Interior received security-related concerns from the mine’s operator in early July. Following those concerns, the government reviewed the situation and decided to strengthen protection for all facilities linked to the project. He said security would also be increased for vehicles transporting equipment, supplies and other essential cargo to and from the mining site.
Talal Chaudhry said Pakistan considers the protection of projects operated by international companies a national priority. He stressed that the government remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for foreign investors working in the country. He added that China and Pakistan enjoy an all-weather strategic partnership built on decades of cooperation and mutual trust.
The announcement came after reports suggested that worsening security conditions in the region had begun affecting supply routes used by the mine. According to those reports, the management warned the Ministry of Energy that continued disruptions to logistics could make it difficult to sustain normal operations if the security situation failed to improve.
The Saindak Copper and Gold Mine is located in Chagai district of Balochistan and is one of Pakistan’s largest active mining projects. Operated with Chinese investment, the mine has played a significant role in the country’s mineral sector for many years. It contributes to mineral production, employment opportunities and economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
Meanwhile, China’s Foreign Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Pakistan to protect Chinese nationals, companies and development projects operating in the country. A spokesperson said Beijing values its cooperation with Islamabad and will continue coordinating with Pakistani authorities to strengthen security for Chinese personnel and investments.
In recent years, Pakistan has increased security around several major infrastructure and investment projects involving foreign companies, particularly those linked to Chinese investment. Authorities say these measures are intended to protect workers, maintain uninterrupted business operations and strengthen investor confidence.
