Pakistani-American artist Salman Toor has been named to TIME Magazine’s TIME100 Art 2026 list of 100 people shaping the future of art. The list was released on Friday afternoon.
Toor was featured in the Icons section. The list includes painters, photographers, sculptors and other artists, as well as curators, lawyers, philanthropists, museum leaders and others who bring art to the world.
The magazine describes his work as paintings of “young brown men in states of intersection and of isolation” in different settings.
Since his breakthrough show at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York in 2020, he has seen his paintings sell at auction for more than $1 million, toured a solo exhibition to four museums, participated in the Venice Biennale and sold out a two-part gallery show.
His first solo European exhibition will open at the Courtauld Gallery in London in October.
The artist was born in Lahore and now lives in New York City. In 2021, he was named to the TIME100 Next list.
