Palace built as a Love tribute

Islamabad is home to a unique palace built by a local resident as a symbol of love and memories for his wife.

Known as Sobia Palace the beautiful building combines Mughal and Rajput style architecture giving visitors a glimpse of the grand style of the past.

A palace built with Love

According to a report by Malika Ishaq, construction of Sobia Palace began sometime between 1975 and 1978.

The palace was built by Zahid Butt as a special tribute to his wife and to mark their silver wedding anniversary. For Zahid Butt the project was not simply about constructing an impressive building.

He also wanted to preserve traditional architecture craftsmanship and handmade artwork.

A special anniversary celebration

Zahid Butt said his wedding had originally been a simple ceremony. However when the couple reached their silver anniversary he decided to organize a grand celebration for his wife.

During the event his wife was dressed as a bride and was reportedly weighed against silver as part of the celebration.

Zahid said that this special occasion inspired the idea of creating the palace turning his love for his wife into a lasting landmark.

A glimpse of the royal past

Visitors entering Sobia Palace can feel as if they have stepped into another era.

The palace features handmade carvings detailed artwork domes traditional decorations and finely crafted designs.  These elements highlight the skill and hard work of the craftsmen who worked on the building.

The palace grounds also feature different statues adding to the overall beauty of the site.
