Doha: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Qatar on Monday for a one-day visit to offer condolences over the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The prime minister was accompanied by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.
The Pakistani delegation received a warm welcome upon arrival at Doha airport. Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani received the delegation.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will meet Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Lusail Palace.
He will convey Pakistan’s condolences to the Qatari leadership, royal family and people over the passing of the former emir.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the visit reflects the strong and historic relationship between Pakistan and Qatar. It also highlights the close ties between the two nations.

Sheikh Hamad ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and played a major role in transforming the country into a powerful regional and global player.
During his leadership, Qatar witnessed major economic growth and expanded its influence in international affairs. He also strengthened the country’s energy sector and diplomatic presence.
Sheikh Hamad was known for supporting the development of Al Jazeera and leading Qatar’s successful bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In 2013, he peacefully transferred power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in a rare move among Gulf monarchies.
