PM Shehbaz expresses solidarity with flood-hit Nepal

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives caused by recent floods and landslides in Nepal.

According to an official statement, the prime minister visited the Nepalese Embassy in Islamabad and recorded his condolences in the embassy’s condolence book.

Shehbaz said Pakistan stood in complete solidarity with Nepal during this difficult time. He announced that Pakistan would send emergency relief supplies to Nepal by the end of this week to support those affected by the disaster.

The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for Nepal and its people. He expressed hope that the Nepalese people would emerge from the tragedy with greater strength and resilience.

Earlier, Hopes of finding survivors are rapidly diminishing in Nepal, a week after a massive glacier collapse triggered devastating flash floods across the Himalayan region.

Authorities said at least 1,050 people had been killed, while nearly 4,000 remained missing. Many of those unaccounted for are feared to be trapped beneath huge piles of rocks, mud and building debris swept away by the floods.

The disaster severely affected settlements and valleys near Nepal’s border with China. Rescue teams have been working in difficult terrain to reach isolated communities and search damaged infrastructure.

Officials said rescuers were particularly focused on several hydropower projects where people could still be trapped inside tunnels and underground facilities.
