Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Iran’s success is Pakistan’s success, while Iran’s failure is also Pakistan’s failure. He made the remarks during a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad.
The prime minister welcomed the Iranian president and his delegation to Pakistan once again. He said the visit reflects the strong and brotherly ties between the two countries.
Shehbaz Sharif recited a Persian couplet during the press conference to reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to close relations with Iran. The gesture was warmly received, with the Iranian president and other officials applauding.
He said the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is an important achievement for both sides. He added that Pakistan remains committed to strengthening cooperation in multiple fields.
The prime minister expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in Iran and said both countries are working together for a brighter and more peaceful future.
He also extended good wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and assured continued support for regional peace efforts.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan would continue its efforts until a lasting agreement is achieved. He praised the resilience and determination of the Iranian people.
He highlighted the role of Pakistan’s leadership, including the Chief of Army Staff, in supporting ceasefire efforts and diplomatic initiatives. He said Pakistan’s efforts were guided by a desire for peace and stability in the region.
The prime minister noted that the Emir of Qatar, the Saudi Crown Prince, and the Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan supported Pakistan’s peace initiative.
He said Pakistan would expand cooperation with Iran in all sectors. He expressed confidence that Iran would soon emerge as a strong regional economy.

He also stressed that double standards should not be applied in international affairs. He said certain elements tried to block the success of the memorandum of understanding but failed.

Earlier, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting in Islamabad, where they discussed strengthening ties and regional cooperation.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a high-level engagement focused on regional developments and ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the evolving regional situation and discussed measures aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging dialogue among regional stakeholders.
President Pezeshkian commended Pakistan’s constructive role in supporting diplomatic engagement, de-escalation, and regional harmony. He acknowledged Islamabad’s consistent advocacy for peaceful solutions to disputes and its efforts to foster greater understanding at a time of increasing geopolitical uncertainty.
