Reports indicated that the prime minister was scheduled to depart for Switzerland on Thursday to attend the initial round of talks linked to the US-Iran understanding. The meeting was set to take place at the Bürgenstock resort, where key stakeholders were expected to begin discussions on implementing the agreement.
However, sources confirmed that the visit has now been called off. No official reason for the cancellation has been provided so far.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had signed the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” as a mediator in the US-Iran agreement. The document was also signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The prime minister was expected to travel with a delegation as part of Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement in the peace process. The cancellation comes ahead of the scheduled start of the talks in Switzerland.
Officials have not yet clarified whether Pakistan will be represented at the upcoming negotiations through another delegation or diplomatic channel.
