Karachi: Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has successfully completed a challenging maritime operation by safely berthing LNG carrier S K Resolute despite severe monsoon conditions and difficult weather, demonstrating professional expertise, maritime capability, and national responsibility.
The vessel was navigated safely through a 49-kilometre-long and challenging navigation channel before being berthed at the terminal. The operation was carried out under emergency circumstances after two scheduled LNG vessels of Qatar Energy returned following the declaration of force majeure due to regional tensions, raising concerns over a possible energy shortage in Pakistan during the summer season.
In response to the situation, Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) immediately arranged a spot LNG cargo from a transit vessel. To prevent a potential power crisis, PQA’s operations team conducted a highly complex and sensitive maritime operation, bringing the vessel safely to the terminal while operating within the port’s technical and weather limitations.

With a beam width of 47.8 metres, the vessel also became the widest LNG carrier ever accommodated at both LNG terminals of Port Qasim during the monsoon season.
According to the Port Qasim Authority, the successful operation ensured timely fuel availability for the country’s gas and power systems. It helped maintain stability in the national electricity grid and enabled uninterrupted power supply to millions of households and key industrial sectors across Pakistan.
The authority’s spokesperson said the achievement reflects Port Qasim’s readiness, resilience, and operational strength in handling critical maritime challenges while safeguarding Pakistan’s economic and strategic interests. The successful berthing of the LNG carrier is being viewed as a significant milestone for the country’s energy security and maritime operations.
