Karachi – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Nabeel Gabol has written a letter to FIFA regarding international-standard football stadiums in Lyari.
The PPP lawmaker from Lyari told the media that Karachi already has football stadiums that meet international standards.
Gabol said that Lyari has two international-standard football grounds and that he has informed FIFA officials about the quality of these facilities through a formal letter.
He added that the youth of Lyari possess immense football talent and that further steps will be taken to promote the sport in the area.
Describing the installation of a giant screen at a professional football ground as a gift for Lyari, he said that reviving sports venues across Karachi remains a priority. He also expressed hope that Pakistan’s representation in future FIFA events would improve.
It is worth noting that a few days earlier, during a session of the Sindh Assembly, Gabol claimed that if Pakistan were ever given the opportunity to host the FIFA World Cup, Lyari already has a suitable venue for the event.
Although the Pakistan national football team is ranked low in world football and has never qualified for a FIFA World Cup, football enjoys immense popularity in Karachi’s Lyari neighborhood.
For this reason, Lyari is often referred to as “Mini Brazil,” where large screens are regularly set up for residents to watch major matches, especially those involving Brazil and Argentina.
