President honors Turkish General for defense collaboration

President Asif Ali Zardari bestowed the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) upon Turkish Chief of General Staff, General Metin Gurak, acknowledging his exceptional contributions in bolstering defense cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye.

The special investiture ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr marked a significant moment in recognizing General Gurak’s pivotal role in fostering stronger ties between the two nations. Following the ceremony, General Metin Gurak, accompanied by a delegation, engaged in discussions with President Zardari, focusing on avenues to further fortify the bilateral relationship.

President Zardari emphasized the importance of enhancing road and railway connectivity between Pakistan and Turkiye, underscoring its potential to facilitate increased people-to-people interactions.

He emphasized the economic benefits of overland transport, envisioning a scenario where enhanced connectivity would not only deepen bilateral relations but also spur economic growth in both countries. Extending a warm welcome to the Turkish delegation, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Turkiye across various domains of mutual interest.

Highlighting the deep-rooted fraternal ties between Pakistan and Turkiye, President Zardari stressed the need for intensified cultural exchanges, particularly in literature and poetry, to foster greater understanding and camaraderie between the peoples of both nations. Expressing satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation, he lauded the upward trajectory of Pak-Turkiye relations characterized by frequent high-level engagements.

The meeting, attended by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, and Turkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Mehmet Pacaci, underscored the commitment of both countries to further strengthening their enduring partnership for mutual benefit and prosperity.
