Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, are reportedly struggling to find a British country home that matches their preferences and budget, according to a report by celebrity news writer Rob Shuter.
Shuter, writing in his Substack newsletter Naughty But Nice on Wednesday, quoted an unnamed source as saying the couple wanted a country estate but could not currently afford a property priced at £10 million.
“They have champagne tastes, but the bank balance isn’t matching the ambition,” the source said.
The source said the couple wanted a property where they could entertain guests, enjoy privacy and maintain the lifestyle they envisaged, but added that such a home was beyond their financial reach.
The report also quoted a second unnamed source as saying the couple’s house hunt had stalled because they had not found a property they both liked and could afford.
“It’s extraordinary that a couple who talk so much about independence are once again relying on a billionaire friend to provide them with somewhere to live,” the source said.
The source also pointed to the costs of maintaining homes in Britain and the United States, saying that staff, security and upkeep would add substantially to the purchase price of a country estate.
“They know exactly what they want. The problem is finding someone willing to lend them the money to get it,” the source added.
The claims about the couple’s finances and borrowing arrangements have not been independently verified. The Daily Mail reported on November 3 that Harry and Meghan had moved from the main residence of a wealthy friend’s Cotswolds estate to another property on the same estate. The report did not say that financial difficulties had prompted the move.
