Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer and Diana’s younger brother, published Swan Song: Diana, My Sister in September, revisiting his sister’s troubled marriage to the then Prince Charles and events surrounding her death in 1997.

The memoir includes Spencer’s account of a private conversation with Charles after Diana’s death, as well as his objections to William and Harry walking behind their mother’s coffin at her funeral. Spencer has defended his recollections after Buckingham Palace questioned their accuracy.

According to Heat World, a source said William believes the controversy surrounding the memoir has placed additional pressure on his father and that he is angry with both Spencer and Harry.

“William is adamant” that the situation has caused distress for the king, the source was quoted as saying.

The source also suggested that Harry may have known more about the memoir than was publicly understood and claimed that William viewed the situation as a betrayal by family members.

Those claims have not been independently verified, and there has been no public statement from William confirming his views on the memoir.

Spencer has said he told William and Harry about the book at the same time. He has also said he sought to portray them respectfully and did not include material he considered unnecessarily damaging.

The memoir has prompted a public dispute with Buckingham Palace. The palace said grief can affect memory when responding to Spencer’s account of a conversation with Charles after Diana’s death. Spencer has rejected the suggestion that his recollection is inaccurate and said he stands by his account.

The book, published ahead of the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death in 2027, has renewed scrutiny of the royal family’s relationship with Diana and of the events surrounding her death.
