The Punjab government has approved the recruitment of military personnel to monitor educational institutions across the province and has also started the hiring process.

According to the report, military personnel will be appointed as Monitoring and Evaluation Officers (MEOs) in 22 districts of Punjab. The appointments will initially be made on a one-year contract.

Selected candidates will receive a monthly salary of Rs60,000 along with other facilities and benefits according to the rules of the Punjab Education Department.

The government will also provide official motorcycles to the monitoring officers so they can carry out visits to educational institutions. There will also be an option to extend the contracts after the completion of the initial one-year period.

The recruitment will be conducted under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).

Applications have been invited from eligible GCOs and NCOs until September 7. Candidates must be between 30 and 55 years of age and hold at least a bachelor’s degree. A Punjab domicile will also be mandatory for applicants.

Candidates are required to have experience in the IT sector and must be physically fit and healthy.

In the first phase, 28 Monitoring and Evaluation Officers will be recruited. Of these, 21 positions will be filled by military personnel, while seven positions will be offered to civilians.

The government plans to conduct separate recruitment drives for other districts during the second phase.

The monitoring officers are expected to play a role in overseeing educational institutions and evaluating their performance. The move is part of the Punjab government’s efforts to strengthen monitoring and administration within the education sector.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Education Department has also decided to extend the contracts of approximately 150,000 School Teaching Interns (STIs) working on a temporary daily-wage basis in schools across the province.

The department has prepared a summary seeking approval for a nine-month extension of the expiring contracts of the teaching interns.

The summary has been sent to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for approval. If approved, the contracts will be extended until March 2027, covering the ongoing academic session.

An official notification regarding the extension will be issued once the chief minister approves the summary.
