Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz officially inaugurated the project’s digital portal, providing residents with a simple way to apply for financial assistance.

The initiative has been introduced to improve housing safety across the province, especially for low-income families living in weak or vulnerable structures. The project has also been dedicated to the children who lost their lives in the Kahna tragedy, where a roof collapse caused the deaths of several children.

Under the scheme, eligible citizens will be able to receive interest-free loans of up to Rs500,000 to repair and strengthen their existing roofs. The government has reduced the monthly installment burden, with payments ranging from approximately Rs4,700 to Rs9,300 depending on the loan amount and repayment plan.

In addition to roof improvement, residents can also apply for interest-free loans of up to Rs1 million to construct additional rooms or build another floor of their homes. The facility aims to provide safer living conditions and reduce the risks caused by weak structures during extreme weather conditions.

During the launch ceremony, Maryam Nawaz stated that a home is not merely a collection of bricks and cement but a symbol of security and protection for families. She highlighted that unsafe houses can become dangerous during heavy rains, storms, and other natural challenges.

The Punjab government has simplified the application process to make the scheme accessible to more people. Citizens can apply through the official online portal using their CNIC information. Applications can also be submitted through Deputy Commissioner offices, Assistant Commissioner offices, and relevant housing department offices.

Officials explained that applicants will not face complicated procedures, and the government will cover processing fees and other related charges. Borrowers will receive a three-month grace period after loan approval, while repayments will begin from the fourth month.

The provincial government has also announced that beneficiaries of other housing initiatives, including “Apni Zameen Apna Ghar,” can apply for additional financial support under the new program.

The Apni Chhat Mehfooz Chhat scheme is designed to provide financial assistance, improve residential safety, and protect families from potential losses caused by unsafe housing conditions. Authorities expect the project to benefit thousands of residents across Punjab by making homes stronger and more secure.
