The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert as a new monsoon system is expected to bring heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several parts of Pakistan from July 19. Citizens and relevant departments have been advised to take precautionary measures to deal with possible weather-related risks.
According to NDMA, monsoon winds coming from the Arabian Sea are entering the upper and central regions of the country. In addition, a new western weather system is expected to influence northern areas from July 20, increasing the chances of rainfall in different regions.
The weather system is likely to affect areas including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of Balochistan between July 19 and July 25. Several areas may receive thunderstorms and heavy rainfall during this period.
The authority has also predicted rainfall in parts of Sindh between July 20 and July 24. Districts including Tharparkar, Mithi, Sukkur, Larkana, Shikarpur, Dadu, and Jacobabad may experience scattered showers, although most parts of the province are expected to remain hot and humid.
NDMA warned that heavy rainfall could increase the risk of landslides in mountainous areas, particularly in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galiyat. The authority also highlighted the possibility of flooding in local streams and water channels.
Urban flooding may also occur in major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan, and Peshawar, due to intense rainfall and drainage challenges. Authorities have been advised to remain prepared and ensure timely response during emergencies.
The weather agency further cautioned that strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning may damage weak structures, electricity poles, billboards, and solar panels. Residents have been advised to stay indoors during severe weather conditions and avoid unnecessary movement.
NDMA has urged citizens, tourists, and local administrations to remain alert, avoid low-lying areas, and stay away from rivers, streams, and rainwater channels. People have also been encouraged to follow official weather updates and cooperate with local authorities during any emergency situation.
With the arrival of a new monsoon spell, officials emphasize that early precautions and public awareness are essential to reduce risks. Citizens are advised to remain updated about changing weather conditions as heavy rainfall may continue across different parts of the country during the coming days.
