The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with participants of the Uraan Overseas Pakistan Summer Scholars Programme, where he briefed the students on the government’s reform agenda and answered their questions.
Shehbaz Sharif said young people have a vital role to play in Pakistan’s national development. He encouraged the scholars to use their education, research and international experience to contribute to the country’s progress, innovation and economic growth.
The prime minister said Pakistan had once been on the verge of default but managed to achieve economic stability through emergency reforms. He added that the government’s reform programme aims to build a strong, self-reliant and export-oriented economy capable of ensuring long-term prosperity.
Speaking on regional developments, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan successfully responded to India’s aggression under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir with the full support of the nation. He also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in helping facilitate mediation during the US-Iran conflict, describing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as a significant achievement in the country’s diplomatic history.
During the meeting, the students shared suggestions on improving various sectors, including education, governance and national development.
Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ataullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, Minister of State for Education Wajiha Qamar and senior government officials also attended the meeting.
