LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Punjab has introduced a dedicated cybercrime cell to strengthen the protection of women and children from online offences. The new unit aims to provide quicker complaint registration, faster investigations, and better support for victims facing digital abuse.
The initiative comes under the direction of Director Operations Punjab, Muhammad Ali Waseem, who has instructed officials to prioritize cases involving vulnerable groups. The specialized cell will focus on a wide range of cyber offences, including online harassment, blackmail, cyber exploitation, identity theft through fake social media accounts, and the unauthorized sharing of private photographs or videos.
According to NCCIA officials, the agency has designed the new system to improve the speed and quality of investigations while ensuring that victims receive timely assistance. A Deputy Director will directly supervise all sensitive cases to maintain transparency, accountability, and prompt legal action throughout the investigation process.
Officials said the growing use of digital platforms has increased the risk of cybercrime, making it essential to establish a specialized mechanism capable of addressing these challenges more effectively. They added that trained investigators will handle complaints with confidentiality and professionalism to protect victims and preserve evidence.
Director Operations Punjab Muhammad Ali Waseem stressed that the agency will not tolerate crimes targeting women and children. He reaffirmed the NCCIA’s commitment to taking strict legal action against those involved in online abuse, harassment, or exploitation. He also encouraged victims and their families to report incidents without hesitation, assuring them that the agency would respond quickly and pursue every complaint under the relevant provisions of the law.
Through this initiative, the NCCIA seeks to create a safer digital environment, strengthen public confidence in law enforcement, and send a clear message that cybercriminals who prey on vulnerable members of society will face firm legal consequences.
