Punjab Revenue Board mulls motorcycles, Rs5,000 monthly IT allowance for Patwaris

LAHORE: The Board of Revenue Punjab is considering a package of welfare and operational facilities for Patwaris, aimed at improving their mobility and supporting their growing digital responsibilities in the field.

Sources familiar with the discussions said the Board is examining a proposal to provide new motorcycles to Patwaris under the federal government’s monetization policy. A separate proposal for a monthly IT allowance of Rs5,000 to meet expenses related to computers and internet services is also under consideration.

The proposals were discussed in a recent meeting where officials highlighted the extensive field responsibilities of Patwaris, particularly in matters involving land records, mutations, surveys and other revenue-related activities in villages and tehsils.

Officials described Patwaris as a key component of Punjab’s revenue administration, noting that district and tehsil-level operations continue to depend heavily on their fieldwork despite increasing reliance on digital systems.

The meeting also reviewed the additional duties frequently assigned to Patwaris, including responsibilities related to flood relief, disaster response, recovery operations and other administrative assignments.

However, the proposed motorcycle facility drew mixed views from some officials. They observed that a significant number of Patwaris already possess personal vehicles, raising questions about whether motorcycles would provide sufficient additional utility.

Despite the reservations, the provision of motorcycles for official field visits and an IT allowance was viewed by the Board as a potentially useful step toward improving working conditions and supporting the department’s transition to digital land-record management.

The proposals are expected to require approval from the Punjab Finance Department before any final decision is taken.

The deliberations come as Punjab continues to expand digital land-record services while facing demands for greater efficiency, accessibility and transparency within the provincial revenue administration.
