The Punjab government has launched a new economic initiative aimed at transforming districts into major engines of economic growth, attracting investment and creating fresh business opportunities at the local level.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the provincial government is focusing on strengthening district-level economic development by improving coordination between local administrations, investors and the private sector.
According to a statement issued by the Punjab Civil Secretariat, a two-day workshop on district-level economic development and business facilitation for Additional Deputy Commissioners (Headquarters) will begin on November 2 at the Civil Secretariat.
The workshop aims to promote local economies, make investment procedures easier and strengthen cooperation between district administrations and private businesses.
Officials from several key economic and development institutions, including the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Board of Investment, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC), will brief participants on available business opportunities and digital services.
The sessions are expected to highlight ways to improve the business environment, facilitate investors and encourage entrepreneurship across Punjab’s districts.
The government has also invited prominent local and international industrialists and business figures to participate in the event. They will share their experiences and offer recommendations on improving the investment climate while identifying challenges faced by businesses at the district level.
An important feature of the initiative will be special exhibition desks established by the Punjab Small Industries Corporation to showcase business opportunities, products and industrial potential.
All divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners will also participate in the workshop through video link, ensuring representation from across the province.
The initiative reflects the government’s intention to move economic development beyond major urban centres and unlock the commercial and industrial potential of smaller cities and districts.
By involving district administrations directly in business facilitation, the government hopes to create stronger links between local entrepreneurs, investors and public institutions.
The November 2 workshop is expected to provide a platform for discussing practical solutions to investment barriers and identifying opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
The success of the initiative will ultimately depend on how effectively the recommendations are implemented at the district level and whether improved business facilitation translates into greater investment, industrial activity and employment opportunities across Punjab.
