QR code payment system introduced at Islamabad Airport

A QR code-based digital payment system has been introduced at an international airport to facilitate passengers.

According to details, the Pakistan Airports Authority has launched this system at Islamabad International Airport to make payments easier for travelers.

Director General of the Pakistan Airports Authority, Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed said during the inauguration ceremony that passengers will now be able to conveniently make payments for various airport services using QR codes.

He added that the digitalization of Islamabad International Airport will play an important role in promoting financial inclusion and strengthening the country’s digital payment ecosystem. He described the initiative as a significant step toward Pakistan’s digital future.

A digital bank, in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan has established multiple digital touchpoints across the airport to promote cashless payments. These include airline counters, coffee shops and lounge areas.

The event was attended by Chief Digital Officer of the digital bank Farhan Hassan, Chief Business Officer Shehzad Khan, officials from the Pakistan Airports Authority, Islamabad Airport management and other stakeholders.

On the occasion, Chief Business Officer Shehzad Khan said that the initiative will support the promotion of digital payments and help advance the Prime Minister’s vision of a cashless economy. He added that this development is also aligned with the State Bank of Pakistan’s financial inclusion goals.
